Hospital Ship dr. Radjiman Wedyodiningrat-992 Sailing Test

The Hospital Ship dr. Radjiman Wedyodiningrat-992 of PT PAL Indonesia, which was launched by the Chief of Naval Staff (KSAL) on August 15, 2022, is now undergoing sea-sailing competency testing.

This test is also known as the Sea Acceptance Test (SAT). During it, all of the ship’s main equipment, systems, and supporting parts are tested to see how well they work.

Iqbal Fikri, Chief Operating Officer, stated that the purchase of this hospital ship “shows the government’s commitment and is a proactive measure to dealing with Indonesia’s location in the ring of fire, where numerous natural catastrophes can strike.”

According to PT PAL Indonesia’s website, the Sea Behavior Test was conducted in the Java Sea, Indonesia, from December 16 to December 19, 2022.

About 490 people took part in this Sea Acceptance Test (SAT) agenda, including members of the PT PAL Indonesia Team, the DN Yekda BRS Shipbuilding task force, and the Material Feasibility Team from the Indonesian Navy Headquarters, as well as future ship crews.

The SAT series begins with the compass adjustment process, ship condition (water ballast setting), main engine and propulsion system performance adjustment settings, and bow thruster. A progressive speed test, an endurance test, and a bow thruster test were also carried out.

Following that, maneuverability tests on the ship were performed, including the Turning Circle test, Z-Manouvering test, Williamson turn test, reverse test, stopping test, and crash stop astern test.

The anchoring test was carried out at a seawater depth of +/- 80 meters, as were the noise and vibration tests carried out in parallel during the endurance test. This series of tests is important because it makes sure that the ship’s performance meets the requirements of the design plan or contract.

All success criteria have been met by Hospital Ship dr. Radjiman Wedyodiningrat-992. It has reached its maximum speed at full load, which is an average of 18.3 knots (GPS), which is quicker than the target speed of 18 knots and has reached 19.7 knots. The best results from the different tests in this study are a big step toward finishing the hospital ship and giving it to the Indonesian Navy.

The sea acceptance test was finished when the helicopter landing test was done. This test looked at the helicopter landing facilities and equipment on a ship that could carry three helicopters (two on the helideck and one in the hangar) and had a maximum takeoff weight of 11 tons.

Hospital facilities such as outpatient polyclinics, including the general polyclinic, the eye polyclinic, the dental polyclinic, and other polyclinics, contribute to the capabilities of the hospital ship Dr. Radjiman Wedyodiningrat-992.

Additionally, the ship has an emergency room, an operating room, an inpatient room, a medical gas installation, and a radiology unit. Moreover, this hospital ship is equipped with an inpatient room that can function as an isolation room and is supported by a separate ventilation system and air pressure controller.

“The seriousness of all PAL personnel, together with the government and the Indonesian Navy, in building this hospital ship is a concrete manifestation of the fulfillment of domestic defense equipment.” “Not only is PT PAL able to build, but it is also able to become an integrated MRO service provider so that all Marine Defense Forces are always in prime condition when carrying out their missions and operational functions,” said the COO of PT PAL Indonesia.

KRI dr. Radjiman Wedyodiningrat-992 has a length of approximately 124 meters. This ship has a weight of 7,300 tons and can travel at a speed of 18 knots.

The ship can hold 163 crew members (ABK), 18 helicopter pilots and crew, 1 VVIP guest, 66 medical staff, 158 patients, and 280 volunteers. It can survive 30 days at sea while carrying three helicopters, two ambulance boats, two LCVP vessels, and one RHIB vessel.
